Welcome to That is NOT Ketchup

A Kid’s Travel Blog

Find out what a child really thinks about all the places parents spend time and money planning.

Welcome to our website!

The name for our travel blog, That Is NOT Ketchup, was inspired by a family trip to Vietnam when Vanessa was 4 years old.  We were eating at a small family owned restaurant where the employees did not speak much English so we were using a picture menu.  We pointed to what we thought were french fries and ketchup.  So when the food came, Vanessa dunked her french fry into a generous dollop of “ketchup”.  The “ketchup” turned out to be hot sauce and the shock (and spiciness) of it caused her to jump back and fall off her chair.  This is a story that still causes her parents to crack up and therefore we thought it would be the perfect name for our blog.  Vanessa is still learning to appreciate the humor in it.

About Us

Vanessa

Vanessa is a very energetic 8 year old that enjoys doing gymnastics, playing with friends and building legos.  She has been traveling since she was 15 months old and loves exploring new places.

Rating System

Vanessa will be providing her thoughts and opinions on the various places we visit – and how kid friendly they really are. Places will be scored on a scale of 1 to 5 teal hearts with 5 hearts meaning Vanessa definitely wants to return.  Teal is Vanessa’s favorite color so it seemed an appropriate choice to use for the hearts.  Vanessa and her father wanted to use poop emojis for the rating  system but mom did not think that was a great idea.  They are hoping to change her mind.

After Vanessa provides her thoughts, Mom will give a brief synopsis from a parent’s point of view – but she will try to be brief since the focus of this blog is a child’s perspective.

At the end of each post, we will provide some helpful links to the places we visited in case you want to check them out.
